whats the point of these? Also, they look like they dont have filters? Is it just for unobstructed air flow to get more power?

Better airflow. Many do not have filters. Some have filters right above the actually throttle plate, others have filters that wrap around the end of the trumpet. They also make wet injection much simpler. Lead image is a BMW with water injection, Jalopnik covered it. Other cars in this include the GT40, Dodge Neon, Lamborghini Miura, Acura NSX, C5R, Ferrari 250, Honda Civic, and Mercedes SLS AMG. Some of these are factory, others are modified.
The second image has some foam balls placed in the trumpets to prevent people from dropping anything down the intake, as it will cause catastrophic failure. Running these will ensure your engine will begin to run off bug juice.

Added a few more images, a couple relevant to your concern. You could do a trumpet intake, if you think outside the box(er) enough.
Like the SLS AMG, not all trumpets are visible.

I'd call these "runners" as opposed to "stacks", but still, damn .

I can understand that. Personally, if each opening only feeds a single cylinder, close enough. No less badass, regardless of what it's called.

I'm not an expert, wait a second this is the internet, of course I'm an expert! Is velocity stacks an accurate name for all of these or does that only apply to carbs?

As Party-vi pointed out, those that cross over the engine are often referred to as runners.
To the best of my knowledge, carb or FI, intake trumpet/velocity stack is accurate.

yea imagine running a rally with these things. you'd need a new engine after the first turn

I'm curious about how it relates to what is just a velocity stack and what is an ITB.

ITBs are just that, individual throttle bodies. A velocity stack/intake trumpet is just the tube that sticks up, for making the air intake better.

Okay, that's what I thought.

I have an EJ255. No where to put em and can't stick one on the turbo.
